Dr. Christine Bergman
Tell us about your professional background.
“My first job in the dental field was as a dental assistant. I worked in my home town of Osmond, NE for a summer before I began pursuing my dental hygiene degree. I then worked at Nebraska Family Dentistry as a dental hygienist treating patients for 5 years before beginning dental school and I am so excited to be back!!“
What is your educational background?
“I attended undergrad at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. I then began my dental education in 2008! I first attended dental assisting school in Hastings, NE. I knew I belonged in the dental world and wanted to learn more. Following dental assisting school I immediately enrolled in the dental hygiene program, also in Hastings, NE, where I became a Registered Dental Hygienist! After working for a few years I started thinking about furthering my education to become a dentist. I was ultimately accepted into dental school and graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center with my Doctorate of Dental Surgery.”
What areas of dentistry do you enjoy?
“This is a challenging question. As demonstrated by the path I took to become a dentist, my first answer would be everything! However, with my background in dental hygiene, I love that improving the health of our gums can positively impact the rest of the body. In my opinion, there’s nothing more important than the foundation of our teeth.“
Why should patients see you at their next appointment?
“I knew at a young age that I wanted to pursue a career in which I was surrounded by people. As a child, I had a MAJOR fear of the dentist. I remember begging my mother not to make me go in for my appointments. I completely understand the fearsome associated with dentistry. I strive to educate every patient on their current oral health with a non-judgmental and comprehensive approach.“
Why did you choose dentistry?
“I never want to stop growing and learning about myself, people, and my career. Dentistry is ever-changing and there are new developments every day. I know that there is always more to learn and ways to grow.“
How can you impact overall wellness as a dentist?
“My favorite thing about dentistry is that we get to make teeth beautiful AND healthy at the same time. Having a healthy mouth can have a very positive effect on the rest of the body!“
Can you tell us about your family in a few sentences?
“I grew up on a farm in northeast Nebraska and have 5 brothers and sisters. My husband works with his family’s trucking company. We have 1 little boy named Brooks!“
What are your favorite techniques to make patients feel comfortable during treatment?
“Over the years I have worked with countless patients who feel nervous or anxious when visiting the dentist. It is very important to me that everyone I see feels comfortable. I love to get to know my patients and take time to ask questions and explain every procedure. A little humor can also go a long way!“
What is your proudest accomplishment?
“My proudest accomplishment by far is becoming a first-time mom while completing my 3rd year of dental school!“
How do you spend your free time? What are your hobbies?
“Being a busy mom has taught me the importance of finding time for myself, even if this time is at 5:00 a.m. I love getting up early and getting in a good workout before starting my day. I enjoy trying new restaurants with my husband and playing outside as much as possible with my little guy!“
Best anti-aging advice?
“Exercise daily and WATER! Drink all the water!“
Your tip for a great smile?
